Twitter app explanation

If you haven't already installed the Twitter for Android app, download it.

Once the app is installed, you can log into your existing account or register a new one directly from the app. Learn about managing multiple Twitter accounts through the app.

You will be guided through our registration experience and asked to enter information such as your name and email address.

If you entered your email address when registering, you will immediately receive an email with instructions on how to verify your email address.

Once you enter your phone number when registering, you will receive a text message with a code. So that we can confirm your phone number.

Note: Android versions 2.3-4.1 are no longer supported on Google Play Store. Please note that if you are still using these versions, they will not be updated. For the best user experience with the Twitter for Android app, we recommend downloading the latest version available in the Store or visiting twitter.com in your browser.

Edit profile

The top menu displays the navigation menu icon or profile icon. Click on the icon that appears.

Click Profile, then click Edit Profile.

From here, you can change your profile picture, title picture (also known as "logo"), display name, geographic location, website, date of birth, and bio.

Make the necessary changes, then click Save.

Update account settings

The top menu displays the navigation menu icon or profile icon. Click on the icon that appears.

Click on Settings and Privacy.

Scroll through the list and select the account settings you want to view/change (for example, change your username).

How to reduce data usage

You can reduce the amount of data Twitter uses by enabling Data Saver Mode. Control your downloaded media in real time to help you save your data.

From the Profile menu, tap Settings & Privacy.

In the General section, click Data usage.

Click the toggle next to the data provider to turn it on.

In this mode, the image will be loaded with poor quality and the video will not play automatically. You will also be able to get high quality photos and videos and autoplay videos.

How to post and delete tweets

To post a tweet:

Click the Tweet icon.

Enter your message and click Tweet.

The alert will appear in the device's status bar and disappear when the Tweet has been sent successfully.

If you want to save the Tweet as a draft, click the X in the Tweet compose window.

You will be given the option to save it as a draft. To access your saved draft, go to your profile, tap the overflow icon, and select a draft.

You can also access the draft by clicking the Create Tweet box and then clicking Draft in the box.

You will only see the draft prompt if at least one draft has been saved. When you log out of your account from the app or uninstall the app, your saved drafts will be deleted and will not be undone.

Post a video with a tweet:

Find information about sharing and watching videos on Twitter. (Android 4.1 or later is required to use the video function.)

To post a vote on Twitter using Tweets:

How to send a reply:

Find the Tweet you want to reply to.

Click the reply icon.

A writing box will appear, enter your message, then click Reply to post.

How to send a signal:

Enter your message in the tweet box.

If you want to send the tweet to a specific account, please enter the @ sign before your username.

Click or tap on a Tweet to post it.

To tweet on your site:

Click the location icon to add your location to the Tweet.

To add a URL to a Tweet:

Links are automatically shortened using Twitter's t.co service.

When you enter or paste a URL, the number of characters allowed is automatically deducted regardless of the length of the original link.

To delete a Tweet:

From the Profile menu, tap Profile.

Find the Tweet you want to delete.

Click the icon at the top of the Tweet.

Click Delete.

Click Yes to confirm.

How to enable dark mode

In the top menu, tap the profile icon.

Click on Settings and Privacy.

Click on the Display and Audio tab.

Tap on Dark Mode to turn on this feature. You can also enable the option automatically at sunset.

Under the dark theme, click on your preference and select Darken or Brighten.

To turn this feature off, tap the dark mode options indicator again.

How to enable dark mode from the menu

Click the flashlight icon to turn on dark mode.

Go to Settings and toggle between Opacity and Brightness. Tweet as draft:

If you want to save the Tweet as a draft, click the X in the Tweet compose window.
